About a year ago I was treated by a physical therapist who warned me that if I continued to be inactive I wouldn’t be able to do very basic things as I aged. He recommended I join a gym and I selected Global Fitness Center. My husband was afraid that it was a waste of money and I would quit. I decided the best way to make this part of my routine was to do it every day. Monday through Friday before work. This was a pretty stressful period in my life, my father-in-law had died, a coworker died, the management team where I worked had been downsized, my boss quit and I was only one in upper management left. Getting on the machines and just zoning out relieved my stress and cleared my mind. It gave me much needed energy and a different outlook on life.
At the same time my husband went to a nutritionist and we changed our eating habits. I gave up all soda. Interestingly, I used to go through a bottle of Maalox in 3 weeks and now haven’t used it in a year. My husband starting exercising too and together we encouraged each other to keep going. Honestly it was so much easier then I thought because we felt so much better!
I still try to get here 5x a week. I do 30 minutes of cardio and aim for weights for upper and lower body on alternating days. My endurance is better, I’ve lost about 25 pounds and my body fat has gone down. My husband lost 55 pounds.
I’m not someone who ever liked to exercise. Now I can’t imagine stopping!!
Thank you Global Fitness!

I would like to share with you the health benefits that I have experienced because I am a member at Global Fitness Center.
When the fitness center was preparing to open, a colorful card arrived in my mailbox inviting me to call and find out how I could benefit from becoming a member. For several years I have been working with my diet and medications to help lower my cholesterol. The numbers were improving but I felt that I was not achieving the needed and desired results. I looked at the card I held in my hand and said “This is the piece that is missing. I’m going to find out about this new fitness center.
I called and spoke with Donna. She was friendly and informative and answered my questions completely. Donna invited me to come to the fitness center to learn about all that was available that might interest me. Within a few days I went and met with her. I felt very comfortable and was encouraged as a result of the meeting. There was no pressure or push to have me join. They wanted me to ask all the questions that I wanted to ask and answered me thoroughly and in a knowledgeable and pleasant manner.
I joined the facility and feel that it was a wise decision and one that I have never regretted. I met with trainer Jen and she planned a program for me. There are limitations to what I can do, but I make the most of the ability I have.
The results have been so very satisfying. I am stronger, I sleep better, and my Rheumatologist at Brigham & Women’s is also very pleased with the results. My recent bone density test shows that there is no bone loss in my hip density and there is a 7% increase in my spine density since my last test. My doctor says “Keep going to the gym. You’re doing great!” And my cholesterol numbers continue to improve with each lipid profile.
My hope is to be able to continue going to Global Fitness for as long as possible. My 81st. birthday is just around the corner.
Even though I feel so much better, I would not look forward to going to Global Fitness Center so much if it wasn’t for the welcoming, warm, friendly, helpful, and professional staff. And on top of all that, the facility is so clean and colorful. My thinking is not that I have to go to the gym, or that I must go to the gym. It’s more that I want to go to the gym. My body and I miss it when we can’t be there.
I send a sincere thank you to the staff for creating this very special and unique fitness center. Because of them, the members are able to enjoy take care of their body, and in turn their mind and spirit.

I made a promise to myself a few years ago to get in better shape to improve my overall health and reduce my stress level and fatigue. Working as a pharmaceutical researcher in the field of Cardiovascular Disease, I am well aware of the detrimental effects of being overweight to one’s health. My goals were to improve my cardiovascular fitness, lose weight and become stronger. Global Fitness has been instrumental in helping me reach my goals. Over the past year I have been able to lose more than 10 pounds, many inches and have reduced my percent of body fat to within a normal range.
I have also learned that exercise can be fun! I really enjoy the variety of classes that Global has to offer. I enjoy cardiovascular workouts in Group Step, Group Ride and Cardio Kickboxing as well as strength training in Group Power classes. And just for fun, Group Groove can’t be beat as well as some of the specialty dance classes that are occasionally offered, like Cardio Striptease.
One of the best things about working out at Global though is the environment. All the instructors and staff are friendly, helpful and more than willing to share their expertise. I never feel intimated or uncomfortable. Global has attracted a wide range of members from all fitness levels and ages. It is inspiring to see some of these people work so hard to reach their personal goals. It’s one of the reasons I like coming here. I work harder when I see other people doing the same whether it is in a class or out on the floor.
I truly appreciate everyone at Global Fitness and what they have done for me. Thank you!!

In March 2006 I joined Global Fitness Center simply because of the ChildWatch area so that I could have the occasional hour to myself. I really had no fitness goals in mind and I had gym memberships before where I went on and off for about 3 or 4 months and then stopped going. Consecutively, two things happened to begin the reshaping of my mind and my body. First, my husband surprised me for my 40th birthday with a trip to the Bahamas. He organized it all. The only thing I had to do was pack my bag. Instead of being excited, the first thing that popped in my head was trying to find a bathing suit and shorts that fit! I wore a long t-shirt for most of the trip.
The second thing that nudged me in the right direction was meeting with a personal trainer at the gym. She took my measurements and body fat percentage. This was an eye opener as I found out that my body fat percentage was teetering in the obese range. I thought of my family and how I want to be around and healthy for them. I knew at that point I could do one of two things; I could go home and give up or I could get back on a healthy track. My first goal was to start a weight training program and build muscle. I worked with a trainer once a week. It was really tough at first but eventually looked forward to my workout sessions. Also I soon began to see definition in my muscles!!
In summary my whole family has benefited from healthier parents. My husband joined Global at the same time as me and has also accomplished a lot. What’s next for me? To keep striving for physical fitness, keep setting small goals and maybe….training for a half marathon? I joined Global Fitness for ChildWatch and ended up running 6.2 miles!!!
Thanks Global Fitness!!
